Two towns. That's the whole list, on purpose.
Plenty of firms list thirty towns on a page like this. We list two, because project management is the one service where distance is the thing that breaks it: if nobody can be on site at short notice, nobody is managing anything. Our office is on Luton Road in Harpenden and every project we take on is within a few minutes of it.
Harpenden
Where the company is based — 419 Luton Road, AL5 3QE.
Most of our projects are here: large brick family houses on the roads off Luton Road and Southdown, Victorian and Edwardian homes closer to the centre, and post-war houses being reconfigured or rebuilt rather than moved out of. Being minutes away means a problem raised at eight in the morning can be looked at before ten.
St Albans
The second town in our project list — a short run down the A1081.
Renovations and rebuilds across St Albans, where conservation areas, tighter plots and party-wall neighbours all add steps a programme has to allow for. The management job is much the same as Harpenden; the constraints are usually more about access and consents.
Why the radius matters more than it sounds

Inspecting while it is still visible
Damp-proofing, insulation continuity, fixings and falls on drainage can only be checked in a short window before they are covered up. That means being on site that day, not that fortnight.
Decisions in hours, not weeks
When something unexpected comes out of a wall, the cost of the delay is usually bigger than the cost of the fix. Being close by is how a discovery gets looked at, priced and decided the same day.
Trades who know we turn up
Working in two towns means using the same trades repeatedly. They know the standard expected and that someone will be along to look — which does more for quality than any clause in a contract.
